The
work shown here is inspired by Monemvasia and the Peloponnese. Anna
spent part of her childhood on Spetses during the 1950s. She now
visits Greece for inspiration then returns to her studio in England
where she painstakingly creates her works of art.
ANNA
CHRISTY trained in Graphic Design during the 1970s. gaining a BA
Honours degree plus an Art Teacher's Diploma.
While bringing up a family she continued to develop her interest
in embroidery and textiles, taking a City and Guilds Certificate.
She has been creating embroidered textile pictures based on the
Greek landscape for the past twenty years. Her techniques have extended
from the original fine hand-stitching to incorporate machine-stitching,
collage, fabric painting and dyeing, hand-made papers and raw silk
felts.
Anna
Christy has exhibited regularly with the gallery since 1992, when
she was in a two person show. She also exhibited in British Artists
in Greece in 1995 and in A British Gallery in Greece
in 1998, both shows organised by Jill Yakas as part of Britain
in Greece and Britain and Greece, two prestigious Festivals
held in Athens.
Anna has also taught art and embroidery, worked as a graphic designer,
and as a costume designer for Great Elms Music Trust. She practices
as a teacher of the Alexander Technique and Pilates.
