HILARY ADAIR was an English artist who had close connections with Greece and Exmoor in Somerset. Working with acrylics and oils on canvas and with watercolour and mixed media on paper, she was also known as a printmaker, and her etchings and screenprints have been widely exhibited.

Links between cultures and the sense of pattern and continuity are the underlying basis for the imagery; with landscape, gardens, still-life, music and poetry being recurring themes. She studied painting at St. Martin's School of Art and Printmaking at Brighton College of Art. Her work is held in many public and private collections world wide.

Jill Yakas's professional relationship with Hilary Adair dates back to 1976 when she showed her work in a group exhibition of British printmakers at the British Council, Athens in 1976.

A one-person show followed in 1985, when the newly established Jill Yakas Gallery showed Hilary's work in the gallery's first solo show. Other shows followed.
